Benefits of Building any Premises Using Vastu Principals

All people are influenced by the buildings in which they reside, work and
worship. According to the design of the structure, one will feel either
comfort or discomfort. In correctly designed structures, one experiences a
subtle sense of well-being and contentment. In improperly designed
structures, one feels anxious, stressful and despondent. A well designed
structure will produce a sense of bliss and calmness while poorly designed
structure will produce sickness and depression.

What is Sthapatyaveda- Ancient book for Building Construction.

Sthapatyaveda, also called Shilpa Veda, is the Upa Veda (supplementary branch) of Atharva Veda. Sthapatyaveda deals with planning, designing, and construction of houses, villages, and cities. Vaastu Shastra, the Indian science of Architecture, has its origin in Sthapatyaveda.
Sthapatya means establishing, and Veda means knowledge. Sthapatyaveda means establishing a good relationship between the dweller, dwelling and cosmos. This relationship maintains a cosmic order between the dweller, dwelling and cosmos. This is the same knowledge that was used to design temples, houses and cities.
Ancient civilizations around the world were influenced by this architecture, remnants of which still exist.

Ayurveda says:
As is the atom, so is the universe
As is the human body, so is the cosmic body
As is the human mind, so is the cosmic mind
As is the microcosm, so is the macrocosm

Sthapatyaveda says:
As is the human body, so is the cosmic body
As is the human body, so is the body (structure) of the building
As is the body of the building, so is the cosmic body

Origin of SthapatyaVeda:

Shri Vishvakarma is the source of the knowledge contained in the Sthapatyaveda. The universe is created with the very same principles that he passed to Rishis and Maharishis thousands of years ago to utilize in designing homes, cities and countries. This very universe is in precise order, moving with precise time throughout many billions of years.
Shri Vishvakarma has said in his Sanskrit commentary that even if one can't apply this Sthapatyaveda knowledge fully, it is still more beneficial to apply some of this knowledge to improve our life and growth.

How can one achieve the balance between Nature and Human ?

We all know that the universe is in perfect order since its birth . If the
Architect can establish the  good relationship between building design and order
of universe, the life of an individual can be healthier, happier, less stressful,
more creative, prosperous and blissful. This ancient knowledge of India was in full
practice by the people of India five thousand years ago. Vedic knowledge is
divided in to twenty-seven branches. Sthapatya Veda is created out of the
alliance of two branches of Veda; Ayur-Veda and Jyotish shastra.
Ayur-Veda contains the knowledge of the science of health and the human body.
Jyotish shastra contains the knowledge of man’s relationship to the universe,
and the ever changing effects of the universe on man. Sthapatya Veda
encompasses both the needs of the human requirements and the environment in one
holistic science.

What are the benefits of building the Home, office, shop or factory according to Vastu ?

Improves the health of a dweller and his family.
Increases the power of creativity and intelligence.
Extension in the longevity of life.
Quality of life will increase.
Growth in spiritual and material life will increase.
Family bonding will increase.
Respect for nature will increase.

Vastu Purush Mandala

What is Vastu Purush Mandala?
There are two specific aspects covering Vastu Purush Mandala. Vastu Purush is the mystical or spiritual lord of a Mandala or the enclosed ground area, wherein he lies with his face down. The Mandala is a cosmic diagram of the enclosure where Vastu Purush manifests. Vastu Purush identifies the importance of an area by placing his head to the north-east (balanced thinking) and his lower body to the south-west (stability and strength). His navel is in the center of the area (cosmic awareness) and his hands to the north-west and south-east (movement and energy). Vastu Purush is space personified and he is said to have been born from Lord Siva's perspiration, when the Lord fought the demon Andhaka and ultimately killed him.
The diagram bellow, known as Vastu Mandala, illustrates how the Vastu Purusha was pinned down by Brahma and the 44 Gods – face down, with his head to the North East and feet towards South West. It is divided in to 9×9 = 81 parts. These Gods rule various aspects of life and have certain inherent qualities. Hence while constructing a building, the purpose/function of a room must be in tune with the nature of the deity placed and ruling that part. This is illustrated in the next picture. Not many houses are likely to have that many rooms.
Hence adjustments can be made by combining several areas. One noteworthy point is that in the olden days the central portion ruled by Brahma was kept open.

This picture below illustrates how the various places can be ideally utilized for a house, office or factory..

Simple and Divine Vastu Tips for Diwali

Vastu tips are extremely important for any home. It ensures that positive energies enter your home and all the negative vibes are banished. However, when it comes to festive Diwali celebrations, these Vastu tips take on even greater importance. All though Vastu has always emphasised on keeping your house neat and clean always but on Diwali it is said that you should correct the Vastu of your home.

Diwali is the best among all festivals as it brightens up lives with prosperity and happiness. Some tested and highly effective Vastu practices are given below which will help home owners be blessed by fortune, health, progress and peace in their lives.

As per Sthapataya Veda During the festival, homes should be thoroughly cleaned and windows should be kept opened to welcome Goddess ‘Lakshmi’, the celestial deity of wealth. Candles and small earthen lamps, called ‘diyas’, should be  lighten up to welcome the deity, as also to (symbolically) banish the darkness in our lives.

The festival symbolizes the victory of righteousness and the lifting of spiritual darkness.
The word ‘Diwali’ is a colloquialism of the Sanskrit word ‘Deepawali’, meaning ‘a row of lighted lamps’, and the festival is aptly called ‘The Festival of Lights’. Diwali is celebrated after about 20 days of ‘Dussehra’ on the dark night of ‘Amavasya’ of the ‘Kartika’ month.

The origin of this festival can be traced into the Hindu mythologies.

According to a section of the population, Lord Vishnu rescued Goddess Lakshmi from King Bali on Diwali.
According to another group, Goddess Lakshmi emerged on Diwali from the Milky Way (Ocean of Milk).
Diwali is also celebrated to mark the return of Lord Rama from Lanka after his victory over Ravana.
It is being said when Lord Rama returned from Lanka along with his wife Sita and brother Laxman after the victory over Ravana the People of Ayodhya lit earthen lamps outside their house as well as on the streets also to welcome Rama.
In South India, Diwali is celebrated to commemorate the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura.

Few Vastu Tips to Purify your home  this Diwali

According to Vastu, the science of placement, can be put to good use in your home and workplace on Diwali day, not only to bring positivity inside, but also to receive the blessings of the reigning deities of this festival.

1)      De Clutter:  It is being said that Goddess Lakshmi enters only in neat and clean house. Throw the useless old things in your home as they obstruct the positive energy from entering in. Make your home neat and clean this Diwali. It will pave the way for prosperity and dissipate stagnant energy too. Make sure you keep the Entrance of the house and Eshaan Cone ( North-East Corner) of your house absolutely clutter free. And it would be great if you can white wash your house after decluttering.

2)      Spray Salt Water:  Mix rock sea salt with water and spray this saline solution at all corners of          the house. According to Vastu Shastra, salt has a property to absorb all evil energies within the house. Add a pinch of energy salt or ‘Sendha Namak’ while mopping the floor to ward off negativity. Place rock salt (filled in glass bowl) in all the four corners of your home or office.and if you can light a Salt Lamp on the entrance as well.

3)      Decorate:  Embellish the main door with a Toran made with mango leaves and garland of marigold flowers to bring good luck, happiness and success to your home. Toran symbolizes nature’s abundance and attracts blessings of God. These days readymade Toran’s are also available in markets if you don’t have a time to make Toran made at home you can buy these stylish and attractive Toran’s and embellish on you main door.

4)      Rangoli:  Make Rangoli near the entrance of the house and also in front of the Puja room for creating a positive environment. Use the traditional materials viz. sand or rice powder mixed with food colours for creating Rangoli.

5)      Light up:  The reason why ‘light’ is an important feature of Diwali is that it is supposed to ward off evil spirits, bring in prosperity and energize the surroundings. It is also believed that homes that are well-lit are always more in tune with attracting wealth, so make sure that your home is shining nice and bright this Diwali. For decoration, using specific colour lighting bulbs for different directions are as follows:

•             North: Put extra blue, yellow and green colour light bulbs for decorating the house.
•             East: Use more of red, orange and yellow light bulbs.
•             South: Decorate with white, indigo, violet and red colour light bulbs.
•             West: Add more yellow, orange, pink and gray light bulbs.

6)      Right way to keep diyas:  The number of diyas to be kept on the parapet and the boundary wall should be in multiples of four, as each diya represents the reigning deities of Diwali – Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesh, Kuber and Indra. You should not separate them.

7)      Jalasthana:  Keeping water reservoirs in the East direction is considered very auspicious. It will help to start new projects and make progress in life. If you want you can place a Water fountain in this direction. A water fountain can be extremely valuable, especially if placed in North, East or North-East direction. Fresh water is symbolic of good health. But, the water fountain should be proportionate in size to the room. Place a cascade of water outside your front door, preferably on the right-hand side of the door.

8)      Place earmarked for valuables:  According to Vastu Shastra, the North direction is ruled by lord of wealth- Kuber and is known as Kuberasthana. This direction is the best place for keeping the safe/locker where you keep your valuables. Keeping a statue of Goddess Lakshmi in the safe with your valuables saves and increases them.

9)      Recharge money inflow:  Take three coins, wrap them up in red cloth and place them next to a water bowl in the north. This will charge up the north zone energy and will lead to increase in money inflow.

10)   Brahmasthana:  Keeping a crystal bowl filled with water and rose petals in the brahmasthana ( Center of the house)  also brings positive vibes to your home. Float five diyas or candles in it and light them after sunset.

11)    Mirror positivity:  Place mirrors on the north and east walls of your house as they symbolically duplicate the positive energy of kubersthana and indrasthana and bring in knowledge and wealth.

12)   Prosperity trail:  Welcome Goddess Lakshmi to the Puja room by stamping small footprints systematically from the entrance of the house to the Puja room. These footprints are supposed to bring wealth, happiness and prosperity in the house.

Get your Pooja Room ready for ‘Lakshmi Pooja’ this Diwali with these Vastu tips:

•             Use new cloths to clean the photos or idols, and use them for this purpose only.
•             Put pictures of water and ‘Kalash’ in the East or North  of the ‘Pooja’  room.
•             The idols must not face the door of the ‘Pooja’ room or one another.
•             Do not keep photos of those who have passed away in the ‘Pooja’ room.
•             Do not keep two idols of the same god at the ‘Pooja’ place.
•             Place idols in the North-East direction in the ‘Pooja’ room.
•             Place the idols of the gods on a bright red new cloth.

a)      Direction of the Deity:  According to Vastu, the statues of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, Indra and Kuber must be placed in such a manner that the face of worshipper should be towards North-East or North or East direction while praying.
Colours for cloths and gifts on Diwali
It would be better to avoid wearing black colours on  Diwali. Also avoid giving black coloured clothes and other items in the gifts
Wearing of Red, yellow, purple, white, cream, blue colours would add to the joy and cheers.
Gifts and Sweets
Do not give fire crackers in the shape of the gifts to the friends or the near ones. It is not good for them and the givers.

·         This is such a festival where gifts are exchanged and sweets and dry fruits are distributed. Distributing sweets is always treated to be auspicious. Then why not to give sweets with the gift items, so that even if some mistake is committed in giving the gifts then the malefic effects be reduced.

These simple Vastu Tips would certainly contribute towards bringing positivity in your household and best of overall fortune and will bring your home happiness, love and prosperity.

Wishing You All a Very Happy and Prosperous Diwali 2013.
May Goddess Laxmi shower her blessings on You.

Who is Vastu Purush & Why do we worship him ?

There is a story in Matasya Purana . Long  ago Lord Shiva fought against the demon named ANDHAKASUR and killed him. While fighting with demon, Shiva was very much tired and began to sweat profusely. A man was born of the drops of Shiva's sweat. He looked very cruel. He was very hungry. So he began to make penance to appease Lord Shiva and get a boon from him. Shiva was pleased with his penance and appeared before him.The devotee prayed to Shiva,"Oh Lord! Please permit me to eat away all the three worlds." Shiva said," Let it be so." The devotee's joy knew no bounds. He got possession on all the three worlds and first he was ready to eat the terrestrial world (Bhooloka). Then the celestial (Devatas), Brahma, Shiva and the demons (Rakshasas) also were terrified and caught hold of the devotee encircling him.

Forty-five celestial beings, out of whom 32 from without and 13 from within caught hold of the devotee. The Thirty-two celestial beings are-

(1) ISH (2) PAROJAYA (3) JAYANT (4) INDRA (5) SURYA (6) SADYA (7) BARISHAM (8) AKASH (9) AGNI (10) PUSHNA (11) VITATHA (12) YAMA (13) KRITANTA (14) GANDHARVA (15) BRINGAVAJA (16) MRIGA (17) PITARA (18) DAREPALE (19) SUGRIVA (20) PUSHPADANTA (21) VARUNA (22) DAITYA (23) SESHA (24) YAKSHMA (25) ROGA (26) NAGA (27) MUKHYA (28) BHALLATA (29) SOMA (30) SARPA (31) ADITI and DITI.

All these 32 celestial beings are out of the limits of the devotee whereas the following 13 Beings are within his limits:-

(1) BRAHMA (2) RUDRA (3) INDRAJAYA (4) APAVATSA (5) MARICHI (6) SAVITRI (7) VIVASWAN (8) VISHNU (9) MITRA (10) SAVITA (11) PRITHVIDHARA (12) RUDRA and (13) APA.

These celestial Beings laid force on the different limbs of the devotee and sat on them as shown below:

ISH (AGNI) – head; APA – face; PRITHWI DHARA & ARYAM – Chest; AVANTSA – heart; DITI & INDRA – Shoulders; SURYA & SOMA – Hands; RUDRA & RAJAYAKSHMA – left arm; SAVITRA & SAVITA – right arm; VIVASWAN & MITRA – Stomach; PUSHA & ARYAMA – Wrist; ASUR & SESHA – left side; VITATHA & GRAHAKSHAT – right side; YAMA & VARUNA – Thighs; GANDHARVA & PURAMADAN – on the knees; SUGRIV & BHRISH – shanks; DWARIKA & MRIGA – ankles; JAYA & SHAKRA – on the hairs grown on the feet; BRAHMA – on the heart.

Vaastu Purusha, being arrested like this, said to the Gods, "Oh, Celestial Beings! You have all caught holdof me and tied me on all the sides. How long shall I be like this, in this position hanging my head down like a prisoner? What shall I eat? Listening to those words, Lord Brahma  said,Today is Bhadrapada Shukla Triteya Saturday and 'Visakha Star'; So you lie down here on the ground changing your position once in three months, i.e. from 'Bhadraspada' to 'kartik' you lie down putting your head in the eastern direction and your feet towards the west. During the months of "Margashira", 'Pusham' and 'Magha', you lie down towards the south looking towards the west and put your feet towards the north during the months of 'Phalgun', 'Chaitra' and 'Vaisakh' put your head towards the west and feet towards the east., looking towards the north; in the months of 'Jyestha', 'Ashadha' and 'Sravana', put your head towards the east. North and the feet towards the south & look towards the east. Whatever side you may turn, you will have to lie down on the left side only. You will be known as 'VASTU PURUSHA'.
And all mankind will worship you as a God of Vastu and the people will donate you some food.

In such Vastu, you will be responsible for the well being, happiness and prosperity of your worshipers.

The aim of Vastu is to balance between the human being and the natural energies. Vastu helps us to make our lives better and also secures us from things going wrong in future.

Vaastu – literally means the energy of a building or an open space.
Shastra – Science/Knowledge

The existence of the universe is based on the five basic elements of ‘sky’, ‘wind’, ‘fire’, ‘water’ and ‘soil’. These five elements have to be balanced in our home too. This very art and science of balancing and enhancing these five elements in a dwelling, forms the basis of ‘Vastu Shastra’.

Vastu Shastra works on the principal of five elements of nature.
Five elements of nature are:-
Water ( Jal)
Fire( Agni)
Earth ( Bhoomi)
Air ( Vayu)
Space ( Aakash)

Vastu Shastra can be defined as harmonious, proportionate, and positive interaction of all the matters encompassing human life.Vastu Shastra offers adequate representation to all factors governing life to create, in a sense, harmonious and melodious music in human dimension. Artistic view point and aesthetic outlook are essential ingredients of Vastu Shastra. It can be explained in terms of constructive or destructive combination of the various oscillatory fields.

Vastu Shastra effectively manipulates the web of cosmic energy for the betterment of humankind. It's well defined rules and regulations ensure that all the houses, buildings and other structures are in harmony with the surrounding environment.

Where modern architecture aims at bodily comforts of a dweller and functional effectiveness of the structure; the Vastu aims at ensuring the health, happiness, prosperity, and well being of the human being occupying the dwelling and endows him with a sustained peace and tranquility of mind.

Vastu Shastra and Fengshui
Vastu and Feng Shui, both are the ancient arts which are following some basic principles in order to live in harmony with nature and to maintain stability.

Vastu Shastra is based on science since Feng Shui is based on local geographic considerations and traditions.
